Zivver Glossary of Terms
A comprehensive overview of terminology used in Zivver products and documentation. Use this glossary to better understand key concepts, account types, verification methods, and message delivery mechanisms within the Zivver platform.
Authentication and Access
2FA
Two-factor authentication.
access code
A code communicated to a recipient by means other than SMS or email, used to access Zivver messages addressed to that recipient.
backup code
A code used to restore access to your account if you lose access to your 2FA.
extra identity check

extra login method
A second authentication factor in a 2FA setup.
organization access code
An access code that is available to all senders within an organization.
personal access code
An access code not shared with other Zivver users in the sender’s organization. Compare: organization access code.
shared access code
verification code
A one-time access code sent via email.
verification email
An email containing an access code.
verification method
A method used to verify a recipient’s identity before granting access to a Zivver message. Zivver uses access codes for this purpose.
verification suggestions
A list of verification methods used for various recipients.
workplace credentials
Credentials that authenticate a user via an SSO solution used by an organization, such as AD FS. Proof of identity obtained from such a system can be used to log in to Zivver, provided the required integration is set up.
Zivver credentials
Username/password pair used to log in directly to a Zivver account. Compare: workplace credentials.
Account Types and Roles
account delegation
The process of granting rights to send and receive Zivver messages via another account. Both user and functional accounts can be delegated.
administrator account
An account with Zivver administrator rights.
adopted user
A user whose email address is in a claimed domain or who has accepted the invitation email. Compare: personal account.
alias
An email address that automatically forwards received Zivver messages to the primary email address. An alias cannot send Zivver messages.
catch-all account
See functional account.
delegate account
A user account allowed to read, send, and receive email using another account’s address.
delegated account
A user account that has been delegated to one or more other users.
free account
A user account that is not managed by an organization administrator and is not in a claimed domain. Also known as an unmanaged account.
functional account
An account used by multiple members of an organization, such as info@voorbeeldbv.nl

guest account
A type of Zivver account that can only be used to reply to messages from other Zivver accounts and is limited in other ways. All guest accounts are free accounts.
managed account
A user account managed by a Zivver administrator.
normal account

organization account

personal account
See: free account.
rogue account
A free account in a claimed domain. Accounts in claimed domains should all be managed accounts.
shared account
See delegated account.
unmanaged account
See free account.
user account
A Zivver account without administrator privileges. Guest accounts are also user accounts.
Domains and Contacts
claimed domain
A domain name claimed by a Zivver admin.
organization contacts
Contacts within your own organization.
organizational contacts
Contacts in the organization address book that are shared among members of the organization.
personal contacts
Contacts added to an address book by individual users.
trusted domain
A domain chosen by an organization to which Zivver messages are not sent. For addresses in this domain, Zivver will deliver a regular email instead of a secure Zivver message.
Messaging and Communication
business rules
Filtering rules for Zivver message drafts.
conversation
Messages between Zivver users that share a topic and recipient list.
conversation starter
A web widget that directs guests to the Zivver WebApp so they can compose a Zivver message to a Zivver user.
distribution list
Obsolete: contact group.
external recipient
An email address that does not belong to a claimed domain.
introduction email
An explanatory message (optional, depending on admin choice) sent to recipients who have never received Zivver messages before.
invitation email
An email inviting someone to join an organization and create a Zivver account, sent only if no existing account is found for that email address.
notification message
An email notifying a recipient that a Zivver message has been sent to them.
open conversation starter
A conversation starter type that allows anyone—regardless of whether they have a Zivver account—to start a Zivver conversation with any contact in your organization.
personal conversation starter
A conversation starter that allows anyone without a Zivver account to start a Zivver conversation with a specific contact in your organization.
personalized conversation starter
A conversation starter that has been branded or otherwise customized for a specific organization.
recipient
A person who receives a Zivver message.
revocation
The process of withdrawing (recalling) a message. Refer to Revoke access to a secure Zivver message.
SMS verification
Recipient identity verification via SMS sent to a known mobile number.
recovery code
A code used to restore access to messages after a password change.
Address Books and Access Lists
organization address book
A list of all contacts communicated with by members of an organization, shared among all members.
