Recipient verification methods

Introduction

Zivver ensures that all recipients of Zivver messages go through a two-factor authentication (2FA) process before accessing their messages. The sender must share a verification method with the recipient, such as an access code or 6-digit code send via SMS. The supported verification methods are described below.

Verification completed

Existing Zivver account

This method is automatically selected for secure messages sent to existing Zivver users:

  • Zivver account - If the recipient has a Zivver account, they can access the message immediately. All Zivver accounts are protected with 2FA, ensuring secure access.

Verification level 3

Verification by SMS

An access code is sent via SMS when the recipient requests it. This method is suitable for recipients without a Zivver account.

  • SMS to new number - Use this method if you know the recipient’s mobile phone number but they do not have a Zivver account. Zivver generates a secure numeric code and sends it via SMS. The recipient must enter this code to access the message.
  • SMS to phonenumber - Use this method if the recipient’s phone number is already saved as a verification method. Zivver generates and sends a secure numeric code to the recipient’s phone. The recipient must enter this code to access the message.

Verification level 2

Verification by access code

The sender shares a pre-defined access code with the recipient through a secure channel (preferrably not email). This code is required to access the message.

  • Set up organization access code - Use this method to create a single access code for all senders in your organization to use with a specific recipient. We advice to share the code with the recipient before sending the message.
  • Organization access code saved_code - Use this method if your organization has already set up an access code for the recipient. The recipient must enter this code to access the message.
  • Access code - Use this method if you do not have the recipient’s mobile phone number but can contact them securely through another channel. Choose a code, share it securely, and instruct the recipient to use it to access the message.
  • Access code saved_code - Use this method if you have already shared an access code with the recipient through a secure channel. The recipient must enter this code to access the message.

Verification level 1

Verification by email

This is the least secure method and should only be used as a last resort.

  • Verification email - Zivver sends a one-time access code via email. The recipient can use this code to access the message. If needed, the recipient can request a new code to regain access.
